A l’origine du concept de « jugaad innovation », popularisé par le best-seller «L'innovation jugaad : redevenons ingénieux! »* dont il est co-auteur, Navi est un consultant en stratégie spécialisé en innovation et leadership. Illustrant l’esprit d’innovation « jugaad » avec l’étude d’innovations ingénieuses et frugales développées en Inde, Navi dresse le portrait d’une nouvelle génération d’innovateurs et d’entrepreneurs. Au travers de son dernier livre « From smart to wise », Navi propose une nouvelle vision du leadership, plus sensée, créative et en constante évolution avec son environnement.

Lors de son intervention, Navi nous invitera à opter pour un leadership plein de bon sens ouvert sur une dynamique d’apprentissage perpétuel. Il partagera notamment son histoire qui, comme il le prône dans son livre, se construit autour d’une dynamique de constantes réinventions.

- Who are you?

I am an innovation and leadership strategist based in Silicon Valley. I am also a Fellow at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, and a member of World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Design Innovation. I contribute regularly to Harvard Business Review and coauthored two books: Jugaad Innovation (which shows how to harness one's ingenuity) and From Smart To Wise (which explains how to use practical wisdom to lead a better life)

 

- What is your story?

I was born and raised in Pondicherry, a former French colony in Southern India. After obtaining my French baccalaureate in 1989 I went to France to pursue my higher education. In 1995, I left France for greener pastures (Canada, Singapore, Thailand) before settling in the US in 1998. I have spent the last 15 years creating new practical business frameworks that integrate Western and Eastern perspectives on innovation and leadership. My purpose in life is to help people across regions/industries ignite the ingenuity and wisdom that lie dormant in all us so we can include and transcend our differences and forge a creative and wise global community.

 

- What does the topic "Future Learnings" inspire you?

We should call it "co-learning" rather than just learning. My generation - Gen X - believed that "knowledge is power". But in today's Google era, knowledge is NO longer power: rather, co-creating and sharing knowledge is the new source of power. The Generation Y really gets it: the Millennials, with their natural propensity for collaboration, are learning faster and better through peer-to-peer interactions in social networks. Learning is ultimately a *social* act. As a result, the traditional Guru-Shishya ("Master-Student" in Sanskrit) modality of knowledge transmission will be turned upside down in coming decade. 

 

- What will you share with us on the 14th of September?

I will discuss the importance of "unlearning" as a key enabler of personal growth -- both in private and professional life. Smart people focus on constantly learning new things but have trouble letting go of concepts and success formulas that served them well in the past but are no longer relevant today. Wise people, on the other hand, are able to quickly unlearn what they already know and adapt to changing circumstances. "Learning to Unlearn" is vital for success in an increasingly complex and unpredictable world. And that requires continually shifting one's perspective by changing the "lenses" through which one views the world.
